A word to know

FDA review: ask what was actually reviewed.

Approval belongs to a particular medicine and use.

What approval means

Reviewing medicines is work the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does for the U.S. government.

As of September 2026, FDA approval means a specific product has been reviewed and accepted for a stated use.

Ask which specific product and which use are under discussion. Keep both in view when reading an offer.

A made-to-order medicine is different

Medicine prepared to order goes by the term “compounded.”

As of September 2026, medicines made through compounding lacked FDA approval.

Before patients receive them, FDA has not assessed how well these medicines work, their safety, or their quality.

Find out what about your own needs led to considering medicine prepared to order.

A registration or code is not approval

As of September 2026, a facility’s FDA registration establishes no agency approval for that facility or for the medicines it makes.

A National Drug Code directory entry also does not prove FDA approval.

That directory uses product identification codes. If an offer relies on one, ask for the actual approval record as well.

A question to keep

Which exact medicine has FDA approval, and what record shows that?
